Community heroes which make Clevedon a better place to live and work have the chance to be recognised for their endeavours.

Clevedon Town Council is preparing for its annual civic awards and is asking people to nominate deserving recipients for a prize.

Previous winners include Lucy Shipway, who set up a dog mess patrol group, and Audrey Purnell for her two decades of service to help Clevedon Neighbourhood Watch.

A town council spokesman said: “The chairman of Clevedon Town Council, Judith West, is preparing for this year’s civic service to be held on October 19 in Clevedon Town Council offices.

“As part of the civic service there is the opportunity to recognise people who are unsung heroes in the community and would be deserving of acknowledgement.

“The chairman wants to hear from the people of Clevedon.

“Who would you like to nominate as an unsung hero? Someone who voluntarily gives of their time and effort to support and help residents of Clevedon?

“If you know someone you feel should be nominated please provide brief details of why you are nominating this person, together with name of any organisations they belong to, and any awards or achievements already received.

“Nomination forms are available from the Clevedon Town Council offices.”

Patrick McNeil is a previous winner after years of service for the SSAFA and at The Barn, while the town council’s own Isabel Johnson has been a recipient for the way she supported the toddler group at Clevedon’s St Andrew’s Church.

Historians Derek and Jane Lily have also been recognised in the past for the way they have shared their knowledge with the community.

To be eligible, the nominee must live in Clevedon.

The awards are open to adults and young people and they should have provided expertise in a voluntary capacity for a sustained period of time, or been successful in a sport or associated activity.

Nomination form must be submitted to the council’s office in Old Street or emailed to office@clevedon.gov.uk. The deadline for entries to be received is noon on October 5.
