A Wraxall man, who runs countryside sports events for families, wants to set up a new air rifle range to reduce the amount of gun crime.

Rob Collins, who puts on Pass It On Young Sports sessions to give children a taste of activities including air rifle shooting, fishing and archery, is looking for land to set up a new sports education centre in North Somerset.

Rob believes teaching children how to use air rifles and BB guns safely will cut down on the rising trend of gun crime.

He said: “For the past year I’ve been trying to find the right premises to open an air rifle range because all the ranges in the area are for members only and the waiting lists are so long.

“I want to open it up to the public and also use it for school trips to educate children in fire arms safety.

“The amount of children getting into trouble with BB guns is increasing and I think if I can educate them in what they should be used for it will help keep them out of trouble.

“I’ve spoken to the police who say it’s a great idea but I haven’t found anywhere suitable yet.”

He added: “I just need somewhere with a bit of scrubland and a long narrow building.

“Ultimately I want to build a Pass It On Young Sports education centre which families could visit for a holiday to learn different sports and forest skills.”

Rob is keen to hear from any landowners who might be interested in helping him and volunteers to help set up the project.
