Football club to host new music festival

A new music festival will make its debut in Nailsea this spring.

Nailsea and Tickenham Football Club is hosting Frythival with bands including Corvus, Spencer Flay, The Piano Man, I’m Every Whitney, Amplify Show Choir, Goodnight Lois, North Somerset Samba Band and The Other Guys set to take to the stage.

The festival will raise money for the club, which is based in Fryth Way, to provide the best facilities and equipment for players.

Event organiser Al Parsons said: “We are really excited to say yes this is our first event of this style and we are very much cutting our teeth.

“However, we have a team of experienced volunteers who have been putting on fun events in Nailsea for the past six years, with our most popular Tickly Come Dancing becoming a regular annual event.”

The club came up the idea in 2016, but decided to take time to plan it.

Organisers sought advice from the team behind the Nailsea and Backwell Beer and Cider Festival.

The football club has two teams and hopes to set up a women’s team, an under-18s team and a junior section. Members need to raise £12,000 a year to keep it running.

Al said: “All the money raised will be injected directly in to the running of the club. We are constantly looking to develop and grow to provide the best facilities and equipment for our players, staff, supporters and visitors and therefore these types of events are crucial for clubs like ours.

“As a result, we try to provide alternative ways to raise funds and we hope the supporters of previous events, namely the annual popular dance spectacular Tickly Come Dancing, come to see our new event, safe in the knowledge we know how to put on a show.

“We boast a stellar line-up of talent, including a performing arts vocal group, a Whitney Houston tribute act, rock bands, acoustic artists, steel drums and an international, multi-award winning tribute act, all for just £10.”

Frythival is being held at the football club on May 26 from noon to 11pm.

The club is equipped to cope with rain if bad weather is forecast on the day.
