The people behind the day-to-day operations of Clevedon’s Marine Lake have issued a ‘massive thank you’ to volunteers.

The Marine Lake Enthusiasts (MARLENS) were joined by a 30-strong team of volunteers who helped get Marine Lake, near Salthouse Fields, ship-shape following a break out of E.coli.

All the maintenance work and cleaning went to plan as 300 million litres of water was emptied from the lake in more than three hours.

The litter-pickers scooped out all sorts from the silty bottom as it gradually became exposed – including clothing, coins and sunken toys.

A MARLENS spokesman said: “We cannot keep Clevedon Marine Lake the way it is without this kind of support. It was fantastic to have so many volunteers pitch up and get stuck in.

“The early evening overtopping tide was a great spectacle too, attracting a good crowd to watch the in-flow, all done and dusted in just 30 minutes.”
