Runner mauled by dogs in Portishead

Police are investigating after a man was attacked and bitten several times by two dogs while running in Portishead.

The man was running on Wharf Lane before being mauled by the canines, believed to be either greyhounds or whippets.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary is trying to trace the owners of the dogs.

A spokesman said: “We’re appealing for help identifying the owners of two dogs in connection with an incident in Portishead.

“A man was running along Wharf Lane from the Sheepway on Wednesday 7 March between 5.30pm and 6pm when he was attacked by two dogs.

“The victim suffered several bites as a result.

“There was no sign of their owner(s) but the animals were followed by a couple walking their black Labrador from the marina.

“The two dogs are described as either greyhounds or whippets and about a metre or so in height.

“The first was described as white creamy/beige colour with faded brown patches. The second was described as very dark brown/black wearing a red plastic muzzle.”
