A Clevedon student has been branded a ‘hero’ for saving a dog after a mile-long chase in sub-zero temperatures.

Year 10 pupil Bradley Seaman was on a geography field trip in Clifton when he saw a woman’s dog had escaped its lead to chase a fox.

While bystanders looked on Bradley instinctively gave chase to three-year-old Bailey, eventually catching him on the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

He then returned the Pug Chihuahua to owner Dr Caroline Rond, but not before also helping a 78-year-old man who had slipped in the icy conditions back to his feet.

Bradley, who dreams of becoming a vet, said: “It was very icy but I didn’t give it any thought at all.

“I instinctively stuffed my geography notepad and pen in my pocket and gave chase.

“I ran as fast as I could round street after street.

“I couldn’t see him most of the time but just kept running until I found him.

“I would not have slept if I had not chased him.

“I am delighted he is OK and back with his owners.

Dr Rond, a professional psychiatrist, added: “Bradley is absolutely awesome – a real hero.

“We are indebted to him forever.

“Bailey is really like my child and I can’t thank Bradley enough.

“Not only was it selfless and kind but it was humanitarian.

“He really is a hero and is welcome to our house and to take Bailey for walks anytime.”

Headteacher Jim Smith also paid tribute to Bradley’s determination and bravery.

He said: “We encourage our students to be kind and be brilliant, and this is a perfect example of this in action.

“We are so proud of him.”
