A heart attack survivor is giving up chocolate as part of national campaign to raise £1million for heart research.

Tracy Frost, from Clevedon, is taking part in the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) DECHOX fundraiser after having a serious health scare two years ago.

She went to hospital after suffering pain in her chest and down the left side of her body when she was told she had actually suffered a heart attack and was diagnosed with spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) – a condition which stops blood flowing to the heart due to a tear in an artery.

After making a full recovery, Tracy signed up to the DECHOX campaign which encourages people to give up chocolate during March.

Tracy, aged 35, said: “I want to get involved with DECHOX because I want to give back to the charity that has supported me.

“I am hoping to raise as much money as possible to help the BHF continue to fund research into heart conditions like mine.”

Last year’s DECHOX campaign saw more than 19,000 people raise almost £800,000 for the BHF.
