TWO parents will hold a charity golf day in Congresbury to honour the memory of their ‘loving and dedicated’ daughter who was diagnosed with cancer just six weeks after she got married.
Natalie Holland was diagnosed with cervical cancer after returning from her honeymoon in 2006.
Although she was sent to The Spire Hospital, in Bristol, for an operation she had to be transferred to the Bristol Royal Infirmary soon after due to a complication during surgery.
After spending two weeks in intensive care, Natalie was too ill to have chemotherapy treatment straight away which led the cancer to spread and she died aged 26 in November 2007.
Now her parents, John and Vanessa Webb, will host Natalie’s Charity Golf Day at Mendip Spring Golf Club on September 10.
This will be the sixth event the family has held and Vanessa said: “Natalie came to the very first golf day as it was all her idea. I think she wanted to give her dad a focus, as he is a golf player.”
Natalie, who was born in Rickford but moved to Langford when she married her partner Mark, trained as a speech and language therapist and secured a job at Weston Hospital the year before she was diagnosed.
Vanessa said: “She was a very caring and loving person, she put everyone before herself. And that was reciprocated in what she did for a living.
“She was very patient, very thorough and very dedicated and she was determined to attend the first golf day even though she was not well.”
The event, which has already raised £58,000 over the past five years, will be supporting Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Weston Hospicecare, which cared for Natalie in her final days.
Teams of four are able to sign up to the event for £160, which will include a meal and there will also be a raffle and auction later in the day. John and Vanessa are also looking for sponsors for one of the 18 holes or the longest drive and they are also looking for more items to be added to the auction lots and raffle prizes.
