A second education group keen to run a new school in Yatton will explain its vision next month.

Educate Together Academy Trust (ETAT) intends to enter the bidding contest to run the new school at North End which North Somerset Council is funding to offset hundreds of homes being built in the village.

The trust, which runs two primaries in Bristol and Keynsham, will hold a public consultation event on September 3. It will also run new schools in Bath and Weston from September.

Emma Garnett, of ETAT, said: “Having helped develop and watch our Redfield school grow from day one, into a school with excellent early years provision, we are keen to share our success with the community in Yatton.”

Yatton’s new school will open in September 2020 with just a reception class but then grow as each year group moves on.

Initial capacity of the school will be 210 pupils, but it could be doubled in size depending on demand for places.

Nikki Buglass, ETAT’s project manager, said the group takes great pride in bringing new schools to communities.

She added: “Being part of setting up a new school is a really special time.

“Being able to influence and be involved in your child’s education is rare and very rewarding.”

The Lighthouse Schools Partnership (LSP) held a similar meeting last month about its intention to bid for the right to run Yatton’s new school.

LSP runs secondary schools in Backwell, Nailsea, Portishead and Wraxall.

North Somerset Council has set the deadline for educational organisations to bid as the end of September.

Last year it gave the green light to provide £4million worth of funding to a new primary for Yatton, with its infant and junior schools unable to increase in size sufficiently to keep pace with the village’s population growth.

Bloor Homes is building hundreds of homes off Arnolds Way in Yatton, and within its second phase of development, has given land to the council for a new school to be built.

ETAT’s public meeting will begin at 6.30pm on September 3. It will be held at the Jack Crease Room of the village hall, in The Causeway.
