Pupils, teachers, governors and parents enjoyed a variety of celebrations to mark a school’s 40th birthday.

Golden Valley Primary School in Nailsea invited former pupils and staff in to view old photos, original log books and plans of the school.

House captains from the school led tours around the building and refreshments were served by the parent teacher associtaion.

The school, in Nailsea Park, has undergone a number of building projects since it was first built and it has expanded so it can now take 420 pupils instead of 250.

In April. offices, work rooms, a studio space and a kitchen for pupils was added to the school.

Headteacher Kevin Lynch said: “Over the 40 years, Golden Valley has only had three headteachers. Richard Brock from 1976 to 1985, then Alan Shaw from 1985 to 2006. That’s when I took over eleven years ago.

“Both ex-headteachers took assemblies to share their memories and show the children photographs.

“Also, as part of our celebrations, the children learnt about what life was like at home and school in the 1970s.

“They all created a tie-dye T-shirt to wear on a special dress-up day so they got to enjoy some of the unusual fashion fads from 40 years ago.”
