GORDANO School has been described as an outstanding school following its recent Ofsted inspection.
Inspectors concluded the Portishead school deserved the top rating of outstanding in all four sections of the report covering achievement, teaching, behaviour and leadership.
This is the first secondary school in North Somerset to be judged outstanding under the new Ofsted framework introduced in January, which is widely viewed as now being tougher and more rigorous.
The report states that students benefit from an outstanding education and that excellent behaviour and positive attitudes make a significant contribution to their learning in a very happy, safe and harmonious environment.
Headteacher Gary Lewis said: “I was confident this was an outstanding school before Ofsted visited and in many ways we should be taking this endorsement in our stride, but it is so good to have an independent view confirm the quality of what you are doing.
“The Ofsted team were incredibly impressed by our students who they described as superb ambassadors for their school and they quickly grasped the commitment, talent and work ethic of the staff here.
“It takes a very large number of outstanding people to make an outstanding school and our Ofsted report reflects the great teamwork at Gordano that has been built up over many years.”
