Hundreds of excited new pupils enjoyed their first day at Clevedon School after the site underwent £400,000 worth of improvements.

Year seven students started at the Valley Road school in their smart new uniforms in the sunshine and enjoyed interesting lessons, making new friends and tucking in to delicious school lunches at the new plastic-free canteen.

The school has just undergone £400,000 worth of improvements in one of Britain’s highest school payouts.

The site has been upgraded with hi-tech safety and security features.

Electronic pedestrian and vehicle gates were installed alongside perimeter fencing, intelligent HD CCTV, a new fire alarm system and new door security.

Headteacher Jim Smith said: “It was wonderful to meet and welcome all the new students to our academy.

“They have seven excellent years ahead of them and our teachers and staff are also excited for an amazing year in store.”
