A donkey derby raised much-needed funds for Backwell scouts at the weekend.

The races and entertainment took place at Backwell School, in Station Road, to raise cash for 1st Backwell Scouts.

The group has two minibuses to take youngsters out and about, one of which will need to be replaced next year.

It is hoped the event will have raised around £3-4,000, similar to totals from previous years.

A scout group spokesman said: “It seemed to go very well.

“There were an awful lot of people there, and we didn’t seem to be hit by the fact it was on at the same time as the football.

“We had a wonderful group of parents involved, and the scouts themselves worked very hard.”

The scouts and cubs are looking for adult volunteers to run clubs on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
