Would you fancy jumping out of plane to help provide youth services for children in Portishead?

Well, one man does and young people at Portishead Youth Centre are urging locals to support his charity sky dive to raise some much needed funds for the Harbour Road facility.

On March 18, father-of-four James Hailwood, a retained firefighter and partner in Richwood Construction, will take part in a tandem parachute jump from 10,000ft.

He said: “I love adrenalin sports and activities and have always wanted to jump out of a plane.

“My wife and children bought the jump for me as a birthday present and I thought if I was going to do it I should try and raise some money for a good cause at the same time.”

James decided to sign up to become a Friend of the youth hub after reading about the launch of the new group of supporters which aims to raise £5,000 for it each year.

He added: “Portishead Youth Centre is so much more than a youth club.

“It provides many activities for the whole community from babies and preschool children to senior citizens, with activities that include music, sport, fitness and the arts.

“It is also host to a number of support groups from young carers to vulnerable young people. Its daytime activities
raise money to allow the centre to provide a youth service in the evenings and when I discovered they run at a small loss I decided to do what I can to help.”

James is hoping to raise at least £500 from his tandem jump.
