Proposals to build a larger doctors’ surgery which could improve the ‘delivery of care’ in Congresbury and Yatton have moved forward, with a planning application anticipated in the coming weeks.
Mendip Vale Medical Practice wants to build a new surgery in Smallway, and executive manager David Clark has revealed a planning application is due to be submitted this month.
A lack of space at the current Congresbury surgery, which is more than 30 per cent below the recommended size for the number of patients, means the delivery of care has been ‘inhibited’.
Mr Clark said the surgery has struggled to meet demand and added: “A larger surgery will provide sufficient space for our patients.
“The practice intends to improve access to services by employing additional GPs, nurses and healthcare assistants. These additional appointments will reduce the pressure on local A&Es and urgent care centres.”
