Clevedon and District Foodbank is appealing for people to donate £1 a week to secure the future of its warehouse.

The Foodbank, based at a unit in Knowles Road, is in need of financial donations to allow it to continue to operate out of its current premises.

The charity has been relying on financial contributions from an anonymous donor for the past few years, but this has now ceased meaning more help from the community is needed to pay for overheads such as rent and heating.

Foodbank trustee Richard Bunce said: “We are very lucky with the amount of food donations we receive, but we also need to raise cash to cover our costs and are looking to generate enough funds to cover our rent and sustain the Foodbank’s operations in the long term.

“We started in Hither Green, then Kenn Road, then Old Street and Griffin Road.

“All premises have been free but not big enough for the long-term.

“Last time we were looking around and couldn’t find anywhere free.

“That coincided with some very generous help from a benefactor to cover operating expenses and rent, but that has come to an end.

“We have seen a big increase in use over the past 12 months.

“The benefit of these premises is we can do so many more activities.”

Sue Regan, also a trustee, added the charity could use the money to forge closer connections to nearby villages.

She said: “It would give us a bit of a guaranteed income in terms of planning for the future.

“At the moment we don’t have a vast connection with the surrounding villages.

“If we could secure our future then that might be what we would look at in terms of expanding.”
