Public speakers from Clevedon School have won a regional debating competition against hundreds of other students.

The eight pupils were one of two teams from across the South West to claim victory at the European Youth Parliament at County Hall in Exeter.

The group impressed the judges with their arguments, team work and debating style about a range of important topics currently being discussed by the European Parliament.

Headteacher Jim Smith said: “We are absolutely thrilled with this success.

“Our students were fantastic and really were the standout team in the competition.

“We are so proud.

“They are a credit to themselves, their families and their schools.”

The talented students will now attend a three-day public speaking and debating conference in June alongside other regional winners from across the UK.
