Bomb discovered at Clevedon’s Asda store

Clevedon’s Asda supermarket closed tonight (Saturday) after a bomb was found on site.

Police were called to the store, in Southern Way, at 5.30pm after being made aware of an ordnance believed to date back to the Second World War.

The device was found in the car park, which was cordoned off.

The item was taken away and the cordon lifted shortly after 9pm.

It is not known if the store will reopen as it was due to shut at 11pm.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: “A cordon is in place at Asda car park in Clevedon as a precautionary measure after we were made aware of an ordnance believed to be from the Second World War.

“Army experts are en route to assess and make safe the item.

“We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding.”

UPDATE: The store has opened as normal today (Sunday) and will close at 4pm.
