Clevedon primary school and retirement home connect generations

Primary school pupils have been chatting to residents staying at a Clevedon retirement home.

Year five pupils at Mary Elton Primary School, in Holland Road, have been meeting people at The Hawthorns to discuss their favourite items and why they are important to them.

Children have also been explaining various maths concepts they have been learning at school to the residents

Headteacher Dean Hudd believes the scheme has had a positive effect on the pupils.

He said: “This has been an incredibly enriching project for the pupils and school, and a wonderful partnership project.

“It has helped to bring learning alive and to bring the community into our school.

“We are looking forward to continuing this special partnership with future projects.”

The visits are designed to help children engage with the community and make the curriculum more relevant to the real world.
