More than £4,500 has been handed to community groups in Clevedon.

Clevedon Lions Club presented the 10 organisations chosen to receive part of its Dream Scheme funding with the cash during a ceremony at The Barn in Great Western Road.

A club spokesman said: “When the recipients accepted their cheques they all spoke about how many people the grant money would help – in fact the lives of thousands of Clevedon people will benefit in some way.

“Our aim is to be transparent, so that money collected from the public at Lions events, especially at Christmas, can be seen to be recycled into doing some great work in our local community and supporting a huge band of unpaid volunteers who work tirelessly to help others.”

Recipients included Clevedon Gymnastics Club, All Saints Primary School, Clevedon Community Centre and North Somerset Play Forum.

All groups were given the funding to boost projects that will benefit the community.
