New speakers worth hundreds of pounds have been bought for the Curzon cinema.

Volunteers from the Clevedon cinema, in Old Church Road, joined with members of Clevedon Lions Club to celebrate the replacement, and more powerful, loudspeakers.

The Lions dug deep into its Dream Scheme – made up with money from its Santa float – to purchase the essential kit costing £750.

The Curzon takes its Front Row Cinema into residential homes and sheltered accommodation so people who cannot watch a film at the main screen can enjoy the cinema experience from their own sofas.

The cinematic project has now had more than 1,000 outings since starting in June 2016.

Lions president Sue Miller said: “We were delighted to work with volunteers from other organisations to support and serve the community, and in this case bring pleasure to older and disadvantaged groups.”
