Clevedon Brass appeals for new members

A Long Ashton-based brass band is appealing for new members to join its ranks.

Clevedon Brass, a 10-piece ensemble, needs cornets as well as euphonium, baritone and tenor trombone players to come forward.

Clare Fraley, club secretary, said: “We play a unique blend of musical styles arranged for a 10-piece group.”

The band actually started life in the 1870s, before many of its members were called upon for national service in 1939.

After numerous attempts the band was reformed in 1964 as Clevedon Youth Band, before changing its name to Clevedon Brass Band in 1984.

It performs regular concerts at venues including Clevedon bandstand and will play at Clevedon Pier on December 17.

The group rehearses every Tuesday at 7.45pm, at Long Ashton Guide Hall in Weston Road, Long Ashton.
