A GROUP of churchgoers from Clevedon spent 12 days in Uganda to witness and get involved with the work carried out by two charities.

The eight members of Christchurch went to the African country last month where they spent time with Care for Uganda in Bbowa and Uganda Women Concern Ministry in Mbale.

They visited four schools to participate in lessons and games, met some of the children sponsored by the church, visited a health clinic and gave out baby blankets knitted by Christchurch parishioners.

They also distributed cotton dresses and shorts donated by Dress a Girl Around the World, visited a teenage mother’s group and women’s groups as well as organising games for more than 100 children at a Prayer and Porridge programme.

After meeting a blind, elderly lady called Nora, the group paid for her to have cataract surgery to restore her sight.

They also helped to construct a new home for a vulnerable family and left a donation for two more to be built. Anyone wishing to find out more about the trip or the work of the two charities can attend a presentation evening at Christchurch in Chapel Hill from 7.30-9pm on Tuesday.
