Adult social care is very important in our society, but can often be overlooked.

Helping someone in need may be selfless, but it is not without its challenges and here at the North Somerset Times, we want to highlight some of the issues and challenges carers are facing, as well as just how rewarding this line of work can be.

North Somerset has an ageing population – as does most of the country – so this really is a sector which needs to be protected and developed. Without carers, many people would be suffering alone.

Over the next few weeks, we will be looking in-depth at statistics, action plans and individual stories from people who are taking on the role day in and day out.

And this is where we need help from our readers.

If you are a carer, or know anyone who is, and would be willing to share your story, you can get in touch.

Throughout this campaign, we want to talk to carers and introduce others to the world of social care.

In addition, if you are an organisation or a charity and want to get your message out there, we would also love to hear from you.

Things have changed over the past year, and the Times reported back in November how Alliance Homes Group had to step in to provide a number of vital care services in North Somerset.

This came after the charity Carers Trust Phoenix was forced to close after 25 years due to financial difficulties.

Alliance now provides home care services for adults in North Somerset and Bristol.

Steve Chinn, managing director of the Alliance Homes Group said at the time: “Carers Trust Phoenix has done a fantastic job providing support and care to thousands of people during the past 25 years, and it is very sad they will not be continuing.

“We are delighted to be able to continue their excellent work.”

You can get in touch by emailing newsdesk@northsomersettimes.co.uk and we will even be launching the hashtag #couldyoucare on social media.

Next week, we will have an overview of the picture in North Somerset and how this has changed over the past few years, as well as all the details about finances, the pressure our council is under, and how you can get involved in the district and do something amazing.

If you think you could work in care, follow this link and find out about all the opportunities in Somerset.
