Specsavers is running a Christmas shoebox appeal.

A Portishead opticians is collecting shoeboxes full of treats for animals this Christmas.

Specsavers’ staff are asking shoppers to donate gifts for them to pass onto Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary in Barrow Gurney.

Contact lens supervisor Pip Sharp said: “For many of us, Christmas is a time to give and receive gifts with our loved ones, but there are lots of animals that won’t be waking up with a family or home this Christmas.

“Holly Hedge hopes to change this by rehoming rescue animals and caring for lots of cats and dogs that need homes.

“Without lottery or Government funding, the charity relies on the kindness of others.

“It costs over half a million pounds a year to run the sanctuary.

“We’re delighted to be supporting the animals at our local shelter this Christmas.”

Shoeboxes can be dropped off at the High Street store.
