Storm Brian may have caused a lot of disruption across the West Country at the weekend – but it could not halt Nailsea Farmers’ Market on Saturday morning.

The monthly market is a big event for farmers, but with gusts of 50mph and heavy rain predicted it looked like being a bleak weekend.

However, Crown Glass Shopping Centre permitted the market traders to use three empty retail units in Colliers Walk so the show could go on.

Jo Liddiatt, who manages the market, praised the team for allowing the event to go ahead.

She said Crown Glass’ generosity meant that 24 of the normal 40 farmers were able to run a stall as planned.

She said: “It’s a nice community story of people pulling together.”

Had the market needed to have been cancelled, she said farmers would have lost out on making a living and some of the produce would have gone to waste.
