Housing campaigners plan to circle Backwell Lake this weekend

A housing campaign group is hoping hundreds of people will show their support by joining in a challenge to hold hands around Backwell Lake this weekend.
Backwell Resistance was set up in opposition to plans for 700 homes being built at Grove Farm.
The proposals have been put forward as part as the Joint Spatial Plan (JSP), created by North Somerset Council and other West of England authorities.
Backwell Resistance is also worried about a four-lane link road and metro bus route, which is proposed in the JSP, and could have a significant impact on the lake.
The family fun day will take place on Sunday from 2-4pm.
But the main event will be the challenge to circle the lake, and people should attend at 2.30pm to take part.
There will also be children’s activities, warm drinks and information from Backwell Resistance representatives.
This is the third creative way campaigners have shown their concerns for the JSP, as they have also installed scarecrows around the village and sent Christmas cards to council leader Nigel Ashton.
People are also invited to take their scarecrows along on Sunday.
