A North Somerset police duo who saved a man from committing suicide have been recognised by the force.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary honoured PCSOs John Shaddick and Chea Scandrett for their extraordinary act of bravery, courage and commitment.

The Portishead pair were called to an incident following reports of a young man threatening suicide at his home. They had to climb to the man and administer first aid on the roof.

Chief Constable Andy Marsh, who presented the awards, said the team’s presence and spontaneous actions saved the person’s life.

Chief Con Marsh commended the recipients for their ‘remarkable efforts, brilliant work and acts of bravery’.

PCSO Scandrett said: “Incidents involving mental health are often very challenging and unpredictable. I had never dealt with an issue quite like this before.”
