RIVER levels are forecast to rise in North Somerset Yeo this afternoon (Sunday, February 25) due to the current rainfall, the Environment Agency reported.

The flooding of low-lying land near the Congresbury Yeo and the roads at Wrington and Iwood is possible from around 7pm tonight, Sunday, February 25.

The flood alert area includes rivers in North Somerset, Congresbury Yeo, Cheddar Yeo, Axe, and tributaries.

A message from the Environment Agency said: “Prolonged rainfall, heavy at times, will continue through Sunday before drier weather returns for the start of next week.

“We will continue to monitor the rainfall and water levels closely and are checking weed screens and rivers for blockages.

“Please avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses, and remain aware of water levels and weather conditions.

“You should avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.”

The Environment Agency also issued a warning for the following areas:

• West Moor

• Hay Moor and Curry Moor, including New Road between North Curry and the A361, and

• Cutts Road at East Lyng.
