AVON and Somerset Police will be carrying out stop checks tonight (December 31, 2023) to check for drink and drug driving.
Posting on Facebook, a police spokesperson said: "Drink and drug driving can change lives forever.
"If you are caught driving over the limit you could face a prison sentence, a hefty fine and a driving ban.
"If you’re celebrating this New Year’s Eve, plan how you will get home – arrange a lift with friends, check what public transport is running or order a taxi. There is NO excuse for drink or drug driving.
"Our officers will continue to carry out stop checks and respond to reports from the public in order to keep our roads free from dangerous and irresponsible drivers and to help ensure we can all enjoy a happy, and safe, new year.
"If you suspect someone is driving under the influence of drink or drugs, call 101, report online, or report anonymously to CrimeStoppers on 0800 555111. Call 999 if it’s happening now."
