THIS weekend, North Somerset residents will be falling silent to honour those that have lost their lives in war.

Remembrance Day will take place this Sunday (November 12) and will be observed across the country.

Here are some of the events taking place in North Somerset.

Weston

Weston's main service will take place at Grove Park.

Accompanied by a band, a parade of cadets, military personnel, scouts and guides will set off from the High Street at 10.25am.

This will be followed by a service, featuring hymns, wreath laying and the national anthem.

At 11am, a two-minute silence will be observed.

Residents will be able to leave tributes to the fallen at a field of remembrance to the right of the war memorial. They are urged not to do this during the service.

The mayor of Weston-super-Mare, Cllr Ciaran Cronnelly, councillor Keith Morris and the town council will be supporting the service.

Clevedon

Clevedon residents are invited to remember the fallen on Clevedon Pier.

Entry to the pier will be free from 10am until 11am.

A maroon will be fired to signal the start and the end of the two-minute silence.

Please note that, due to the large expected crowds, there may be a limit as to how many people can enter the pier.

Portishead

Portishead locals will also have the chance to get involved.

On Sunday, the Remembrance Parade and church service will take place. At 10.15am, the parade will assemble on the High Street before observing The Act of Remembrance at 10.45am.

This will be followed by two minutes of silence at 11am. The parade will then move off via the High Street.

Visitors are welcome to watch. Road closures will be in place from 9.45am until 12.15pm.

Nailsea

Meanwhile, Nailsea's parade is expected to be "much larger" than previous events. Posting on Facebook, a spokesperson from Nailsea Town Council said: "Nailsea will be hosting a Remembrance Day parade on Sunday, November 12, 2023.

"This parade will be much larger than those previous, with members of the Army and Navy Cadets, Scouts, Beavers, Guides and Brownies with the Brass Band of the Scouts leading the march.

"The procession will be starting at the Scout Hut, located on Hannah More Road at 10:15am and finishing at the Holy Trinity Church on Church Lane, for wreath-laying."
