Punk rockers from Weston
04 March 2010
BRIT-PUNK rockers from Weston will open a new themed music night this week.
The Fanzines, named after the amateur punk magazine, has been a regular band on the gig circuit in the region and will now open the first new music event at Decades of Rock nightclub, formerly Hobbits.
Owner of the venue in Carlton Street, Mark Bolam, has decided to start a monthly 'punk-new wave' evening featuring live bands followed by a DJ.
The showcase for this club will be Friday at 9pm and The Fanzines, featuring singer Mike Headington, bass player Martin Bray, drummer Pete Roe and guitar player Dale Fieldhouse, will open the night.
Martin said: "It is hoped that this club will fill the gap that has so long been needed in Weston.
"The punk scene seems to have been reduced to an after thought most of the time and has ended up as 'just another sub genre of rock music', as opposed to a valid music in its own right."
Doors open at 9pm and entry is free until 11pm.
