History of our town

04 March 2010

SOME of your readers may recall that in 2003, I ran a very successful campaign on behalf of my cat, Kipper, against the wilful and indiscriminate discharge of fireworks at any time day or night.

I have not been tempted to write to your publication since, but I feel equally angry about the intended closure of our lovely museum, and I'm so much 'in line' with the mums against the closure campaign that I am writing to you again now.

I agree with Martha Perriam's letter of February 18 in almost all of its detail except we mustn't store the contents of the museum but keep it open for us and our children and their children and all future generations to enjoy and to preserve (not hide away) the history of our town.

Why spend £14million on moving the council offices to Clevedon when the money could be far better spent on preserving the museum and our heritage.

I urge everyone (including our councillors) to come to the public meeting on Saturday March 6 at 10.30am and let's have a healthy debate on the subject and not just let our ridiculous North Somerset Council 'ride roughshod' over the town's residents and their feelings.

This council seems 'hell bent' on closing any attraction which might help tourism/attract visitors to our fast disintegrating town.
