A GROUP of children in Portishead have become members of the Rotary Club.
Pupils at Trinity Church School have become Rotakids, the youngest group in the Rotary family.
They are one of a handful so far in the UK and the first in the West.
The children pledge to be fair to all, to serve their community and to show respect for others. They will help with fund-raising ideas and take part in practical activities like filling an Aquabox, which combines water purification equipment that Rotary provides, with items such as a bucket, plastic cups, plates and baby clothes.
The Rotakids kicked off Portishead's contribution to Rotary International's Thanks for Life campaign, which aims to rid the world of polio, with a special assembly at the school.
