Playing field revamp to start
10 March 2010
'LONG-OVERDUE' work to revamp a public field in Banwell with a games area and two playgrounds begins this month.
Banwell Parish Council has announced builders will move on the recreational field off Knightcott Road on March 15 to start the £80,000 work.
Sutcliffe Play will put a large ball court, nest swing, toddler play area, climbing board and swings on the field.
The work comes as a result of a two-day consultation with residents last year.
Parish Councillor Richard Griffin said: "This will give the children of Banwell something they haven't had before.
"It will offer a large play area where youngsters can enjoy a wide-range of activities - I think this has been long-overdue for the village.
"We're very excited about the project."
Cash for the revamp has mostly come from a £82,169 cash pot left by a village resident toward the recreational ground.
The project has also benefited from grants from Play Builder, Bristol Airport, Churngold and NS Housing.
