PSYCHOLOGICAL horror-thriller Shutter Island will be showing at Weston's Odeon this week.
The film, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is based on a 2003 novel of the same name by Dennis Lehane.
It is set in 1954 and follows US Marshal Teddy Daniels (DiCaprio) and his partner Chuck Alue, played by Mark Ruffalo, as they go to the Ashecliff Hospital for the criminally insane.
They are visiting the Shutter Island hospital to investigate the disappearance of patient Rachel Solando who vanished from a locked room.
The cliffs surrounding the perimeter of the hospital make it impossible for her to escape.
Her doctor, John Cawley, explains that Rachel was institutionalised after drowning her three children and she believes she is still at home and that her offspring are alive.
While investigating the case the marshals find out Rachel's psychiatrist Dr Sheeham left for a holiday that morning. When they ask to see the personnel files Dr Cawley refuses.
Later that night Teddy has strange dreams about his wife Dolores, who died in a fire two years ago. She tells him Rachel is still on the island, as is Andrew Laeddis, the man who started the fire.
The next morning Teddy explains to Chuck the real reason he took on the case. He says that after being transferred to Ashecliff, Andrew Laeddis disappeared and Teddy was told the facility was performing human experiments.
When Rachel is finally found she is unresponsive to Teddy's questioning - but the marshals discover the real Rachel Solando is hiding in a cave.
The real Rachel was a doctor at Ashecliff until she found out about the experiments and was committed as a patient. She explains the hospital is using psychotropic medication in an attempt to master mind control for use in the Cold War.
