Cultural films on tour

10 March 2010

A TRAVELLING shed will be showcasing digital stories of people from North Somerset in a bid to raise awareness of the different cultures in area.

Students from Priory Community School in Weston and members of the Somerset Racial Equality Council will be creating their own stories on film that reflect aspects of their lives.

Theatre Orchard Project, based in Nailsea, set up the project after receiving a grant from Mediabox and Find Your Talent, and the finished stories will be on show in a travelling exhibition called Storyshed.

Eight students and eight adults from different cultural backgrounds will be taught how to make their short films by the Watershed in Bristol over the next six months.

Lessons began at Priory Community School on Tuesday. Fiona Matthews, creative producer of the Theatre Orchard Project, said: "Theatre Orchard is hugely excited by the potential of this cross-generational and cross-cultural project, with participants originating from around the globe.

"The cutting edge expertise lent by the Watershed promises to create an exciting learning experience for all involved, with a pivotal role for the young people."

The students will also help to design a shed which will house the interactive installation and will be created by Somerset Wood Recycling, based in Weston.

It will then tour the region to teach people about diversity and different cultures represented in North Somerset.

Anyone interested in booking the Storyshed can do so by sending an email to fiona_matthews@blueyonder.co.uk
